Letters to Emerson- Six Months

Emerson 6 Month Stats:

Weight: 18lbs (75th-90th%)

Height: 27" (90th%)

Clothing: 3-6, but started to fit into some 6-9 month pajamas.

Diapers: Size 2, but about to switch to size 3's as soon as we finish the box of 2's.

Favorite Toys: In addition to your excersaucer, we got you a jumper (the same one as your older sisters, except Mommy found this one second hand since we had lent your older sister's one out and it was never returned), and you go BANANAS in it! You totally grasped the concept of jumping within a few minutes of being in it.  You also enjoy all of your baby toys, and seem to love anything you can put in your mouth and anything that makes noise- your favorite being the crinkle book.

Favorite Past Time:  Being out and about in the stroller, going for walks, being in the baby carrier, and playing with your sisters. You also love when Mommy tickles you and blows raspberries on your belly!

Communication: You are such a ham and literally screech with excitement! You "talk" when we talk to you with your baby sounds and it's just the sweetest.  This month you have started to laugh more consistently, and your sisters can make you laugh the most!

Cries: Only when tired or hungry, you are such a happy girl!

Schedule/Bedtime/Nap time: This month has shown to be your most consistent thus far, and we now are on 3 naps per day! You have a pretty good routine- you wake around 6/6:30 most days and typically eat around 7/7:30am which is a bottle of 6oz of formula.  We put you down for your first nap of the day around 8am, and this is typically a 90 min-2 hour nap.  When you wake (ballpark of 10ish) we give you your first solid of the day which is rice cereal mixed with some sort of fruit (you don't love fruits as much as you do veggies, and don't seem to care for bananas). By 11:30am you are ready for your next bottle of 6oz.  Your second nap of the day is around noon, and typically is around an hour to 90 mins. Sometimes you'll do 2 hours, especially if the morning nap wasn't.  Your next bottle is usually around 2:30/3pm. You still need that third nap (most of the time a cat nap) around 4pm to get you through to bedtime. We do your second meal of solids around dinnertime, 5pm ish, and that is a veggie! Last bottle of the day is around 6/6:30pm, and bedtime is around 6:30/7pm. You still are waking for a bottle around 3/4am.

Foods: Only 5 bottles now, 6oz each, and solids twice a day.

Worth Mentioning: We introduced solids this month. At first you were not a fan at all. You still had a pretty good gag reflex, and didn't seem interested. I also noticed that you became more fussy and then eventually broke out in a rash on your chest and belly.  After putting two and two together, we started to believe that you were most likely having a reaction to the oatmeal cereal that we were giving you (Beechnut brand- organic oatmeal) as the ingredients listed were organic rolled oats and in parenthesis said "contains wheat". Hmmm. Not sure if that's what it was, but regardless we stopped and took a 10 day hiatus from solids.  We bought Earth's Best brand rice cereal, and started that a week or so before you turned 6 months, and so far so good. We'll discuss in further when we see the GI specialist this month.

-This month you have also started noticing the kitty, Maisy, and get so excited to see her!
- Your hands are constantly in your mouth!
- You had a HUGE growth spurt this month! Dr. M said it's pretty common in GI babies to have a big jump in weight once they start to be able to properly digest food and have their guts heal. We adore your rolls!!

Milestones:

-You are rolling both ways consistently, but still get aggravated if you roll onto your belly during nap time or during the night.  Not sure if your sleep sack makes it more difficult for you or what, but it's still frustrating.

-You are starting to show signs of being able to sit independently, so we have been working on that.
