Happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday was my first doctor's appointment. T and I were really hoping to see the baby's heartbeat (6 weeks is too early to hear it), so we were hoping I'd get to have an ultrasound. No such luck. The appointment was over an hour long...basically going over all of my and T's medical history, how long it took us to conceive, do's and don'ts during pregnancy, etc. I also had an exam and the midwife told me that my uterus was measuring right on track for 6 weeks--she doesn't think it's twins. We mentioned our concern because of my family history of many sets of fraternal twins. I also had 7 vials of blood drawn. Ugh!! They do a million tests, but I'm fine with that. We go back 12/14 to try and hear the heartbeat with the doppler and to go over my blood work results. I don't get an ultrasound until around 10-13 weeks.

This past week I have started to feel morning sickness- but all day long! I feel so nauseous first thing in the morning and suffer through my morning routine of showering and getting ready. T has been such a huge help by making me toast and basically doing everything around the house. Teaching is so tough because all I want to do is to sit down. I dream about being back at a desk job where I have total control of my schedule and can get sick in my trash barrel if necessary. I haven't gotten sick yet, but definitely have felt like if I could I'd feel so much better. At my appointment yesterday, the midwife said things could get progressively worse because 6-7 weeks is when things really start to pick up with morning sickness....great! Just what I was hoping to hear.

This morning I woke up and I feel fine though- I am so thankful for that. We're heading to T's Aunt's house for Thanksgiving today and we're still debating on sharing our news. We went to Target last night and bought 3 Christmas bibs to give to T's parents, my mom and stepdad, and my dad. They are all wrapped up and ready to go, but who knows if we'll do it today or wait until Christmas. Part of me wants to wait until we hear the baby's heartbeat!

One Week Ago

One week ago today we found out we were expecting! One week ago our lives changed forever. In the past week I have been a ball of emotions. I'm so happy to be pregnant, but so scared of what can go wrong. My first doctor's appointment isn't until November 23rd which is 12 days away. It seems like an eternity. I want to scream from the rooftop that I'm pregnant because I am so thrilled, but I am way too nervous that the rug is going to be pulled out from under me. I asked the secretary if we'll be able to hear the baby's heartbeat at our appointment and she said that it will probably be too early and that they'll most likely schedule me for a follow up appointment 2-3 weeks after that. So, until then I'll just keep taking pregnancy tests, ha! I took one today and of course the two (dark!) pink lines came up instantly. Nothing like a little reassurance. ;)

The past week I have felt great, just very tired. I had today off because of Veteran's Day and went to bed last night at 9:20pm and didn't wake up until 9am this morning! Tonight was my first taste of nausea. I had gone grocery shopping and when I came home I got all hot and my mouth was watery. I hope this isn't a preview as to what is to come! But honestly, if being sick means that I'll have a healthy baby then bring it on!

It's Official...We're Expecting!

On Tuesday, Novemember 2nd I came home from work and had this nagging feeling to take a test. I did, and the most faint line ever came up. I quickly snapped a picture with my IPhone and went on with my day. T was coming home from work to pick me up so we could go grab dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, SOMA. While at dinner I took out my phone and showed him the picture of the test and asked him if he could see a line. Immediately he said, "Yes, what is that?" as T was not expecting I had taken a test. We talked about how amazing it would be if it were in fact a positive test, but then dropped the subject as to not jinx ourselves.

The next morning (Wednesday) I took another cheap test and again another VERY faint line came up. T and I were discouraged and thought that it may just be that every test has that faint line? That night we drove back to T's hometown for his grandmother's wake. Since we were staying at T's parents house we decided it would be best to not take a test the following morning since his parents, sister, sister's boyfriend, and grandfather would just be a room away. Thursday was the funeral.

When we returned home at 4:30pm I asked T, "Should I take another test?" he said yes. I took another test and sure enough this time it was a lot darker! Definitely a positive! We stood there in the bathroom with the largest smiles on our faces in complete disbelief that we had done it! We were pregnant!

It's such a blessing to have begun the process of creating a new life just as we have lost two family members (my grandfather, T's grandmother) in the past 2 months.
